Founded in 1967 as a subsidiary of South Korea's Chaebol conglomerate, Daewoo Motor initially focused on manufacturing commercial vehicles and buses. In the late 1980s, it entered the passenger car market, introducing the first domestically produced compact car, the 'Lotus'. The company experienced significant growth throughout the 1990s, becoming one of Korea's top five automakers. However, financial difficulties led to its reorganization in 2001, and Daewoo Motor was split into several entities, including General Motors Daewoo (GMDAT) and SsangYong Motor. GMDAT continued to produce various models under the Daewoo brand until 2011 when it was rebranded as Chevrolet. Today, some of Daewoo's iconic models live on through SsangYong Motor, which continues to use designs and technology from the merged company.Currently produced models are not available under the Daewoo brand. However, some key discontinued models include:1. Daewoo Matiz (1998-2016) - A compact city car known for its affordability and fuel efficiency.2. Daewoo Leganza (1998-2005) - A compact executive car that was also sold as the Pontiac LeMans in North America.3. Daewoo Nubira (1996-2014) - A compact car available in sedan and wagon body styles.4. Daewoo Magnus (2001-2015) - A compact hatchback that replaced the Nubira.5. Daewoo Tico (1996-2003) - A budget-friendly city car sold in some markets as the Chevrolet Spark.6. Daewoo Espero (1994-2003) - A midsize sedan that was also sold as the Asüna Maxx in North America.7. Daewoo Musso (1985-2001) - A pickup truck that was also known as the SsangYong Musso after the merger.8. Daewoo Racer (1996-1999) - A sporty compact car that was available as a two-door coupe and convertible.9. Daewoo Nexia (1993-2005) - A subcompact hatchback based on the Opel Astra.10.
